Last week the Three Village Community Trust had their annual dinner celebration featuring guest speaker Beverly Tyler, the very knowledgeable Three Village historian. He began his speech with a story about his great-grandfather, an early settler in Brookhaven. One evening this ancestor couldn’t find his dentures. He looked and looked, but they were nowhere to be found. Then he realized an amazing thing – he had swallowed the dentures whole! (Is this possible? I don’t think so!) Anyway, so the story goes, and from that time on, he chewed his food twice. Funny – but what does this tale have to do with the story of Patriot’s Rock and the early Setauket settlers? I have no idea!
