Sports drinks may be great for an energy boost but they also expose people to levels of citric acid that can cause tooth erosion and hypersensitivity. Tooth wear affects an estimated one in 15 Americans. Brushing your teeth after drinking a sports drink can compound the problem of tooth erosion because the softened enamel is very susceptible to the abrasiveness of toothpaste. The research was done at the NYU College of Dentistry.
