Dr. Terry S. Shapiro has been practicing all phases of general and cosmetic dentistry in East Setauket, Long Island for over 25 years. She has the advanced training and skill to give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
Your first visit to our office will be an opportunity for us to get to know you and for us to listen to your concerns and goals. We will show you our “before and after” photos of smiles we have completed and we will do a computer imaging of your smile. The initial comprehensive oral examination consists of a complete visual examination of your teeth and supporting tissues, digital radiographs, digital photographs, a cancer screening, periodontal assessment, and diagnostic models.
At your consultation visit we will discuss cosmetic dentistry treatment options to help you select the best treatment for your needs. We thoroughly review what you can expect, especially with respect to Porcelain Veneers, Dental Implants, Tooth Whitening, and Smile Makeovers. We will give you the ability to preview your new smile through a diagnostic tooth waxup. You can also "test drive," your new smile through our well-constructed and aesthetic provisional restorations. Depending upon your goals, Cosmetic Dentistry offers several options:
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We design each case individually to enhance each patient's smile, and utilize the artistry of JK Oral Design Laboratory to fabricate our custom porcelain veneers. Veneers require less tooth reduction than conventional crowns and can conservatively transform a smile.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding consists of bonding a composite resin to the tooth to repair chipped or cracked teeth. The advantages of composite bonding over veneers are that it is a reversible procedure, often doesn’t require anesthesia and is less expensive than porcelain veneers.
Recontouring and Reshaping
With recontouring and reshaping, we can easily and non-invasively correct crowded or chipped teeth in one visit.
Teeth Whitening
Having a beautiful smile may be even easier than you think. Our patients achieve brighter, whiter teeth with the Opalescence professional at-home teeth whitening (teeth bleaching) procedure or with the in-office tooth whitening procedure. Tooth whitening corrects brown, yellow and mottled teeth and can bring a dull smile alive.
Non-metallic, tooth-colored resin and porcelain fillings, crowns and bridges
We can replace worn out silver fillings with tooth-colored boned restorations to enhance your smile. We use a high quality porcelain and careful technique to create life-like crowns and bridges.
Dental Implants
For patients missing one or more of their natural teeth, dental implants offer a secure, natural looking, and permanent solution. Unlike fixed bridges or dentures, restored dental implants most closely mimic real teeth by replacing not only the tooth, but also the root. Made out of biologically safe titanium, the dental implant is surgically placed into the bone and actually fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration. Restored dental implants look and function exactly like natural teeth and are a very comfortable and conservative way to replace teeth and help preserve facial structure.
Smile Makeovers
If would like to make a change to your smile, we can create a complete smile makeover designed specifically for you. During the smile makeover process, we use advanced computer imaging technology to help you visualize the smile you have always wanted. If your teeth are crooked, chipped, discolored, or flawed, we can restore the beauty of your smile. We use a combination of dental veneers, dental implants, crowns, dental bonding, and tooth whitening to give you a truly beautiful, natural looking smile.
