Several times a year the Suffolk County Dental Society (http://www.suffolkdental.org) has a membership meeting at the old Sheraton hotel in Hauppauge (which is now the Upsky Hotel). Last night was our first meeting of the fall. The meeting is an opportunity for dentists to spend time with dental manufacturers learning about new materials and a chance to touch base with colleagues. There is a formal meeting where political issues related to dentistry are discussed. There is also a speaker on a clinical topic.
The Suffolk County Dental Society is a membership association of dentists in Suffolk County. It is the local component of the New York State Dental Association (www.nysdental.org) and the American Dental Association (www.ada.org). Over 80% of the licensed dentists in Suffolk County (more than 1100 dentists) are members of the Society. The mission of the Society is to promote the science of dentistry, to protect and improve the health of the public and to represent the interests of the dental profession. I have been a member ever since I was a dental student. We should have 100% membership. The Society is working on it.
